NEWS IN 2012
Chris Southwell has finished first in his age group at the Falls Creek Australian Long Course Triathlon championships on Saturday, 11 February 2012. Well done Chris - an awesome result!
Congratulations to both Glenn Cochrane (6th in 50-59 age group) and Matt Miller (27th in 40-49 age group) for their outstanding performance in the Challenge Wanaka Triathlon on 22 January 2012 in what were tough conditions.
Cairns 70.3 and Ironman results
Following a week of fairly wet weather, Cairns turned on a fabulous sunny race day. The 70.3 kicked off just before 7 am in the not so clear waters of Cairns Harbour (it had been swept for crocs and sharks!!!!). Congratulations and fabulous results from to Club finishers:
Paul Donoghue 6:45
Jen Henville 5:08 (1st in age group)
Kath McTaggart 6:14
Cheryl Parnham 6:31 (3rd in age group)
Karen Parnham 6:51
The Ironman group followed into the water about 20 minutes later and after a rough and tumble swim, headed out along the road to Port Douglas with some of the most fabulous scenery along the coastline and finally a run through the cane fields, along the highway and back home to Cairns. Congratulations to our fabulous finishers ...
Chris Southwell 9:35 (1st in age group and Hawaii Ironman qualifier)
Kerri Small 13:50
Kim Tudjman 13:57
Steve Tudjman 15:55 (that was his 3rd Ironman race in just over 4 months and 17th Ironman - awesome effort)
Anyone thinking of heading up to Cairns next year to tackle one of the two events, we would all encourage you to do it ...the scenery on the ride is worth it.

This year Engadine Tri Club joined forces with Cronulla Tri Club to form Team TOSS (Triathletes of Sutherland Shire) with the goal of challenging team PIS (Penrith Institute of Sport). There is a trophy on offer and this will be awarded followsing the beer mile event ... I will post an update once the beer mile has been run and won!!!
It appears that team TOSS was robbed in the beer mile and PIS declared the winners even though the timing chips say it was a dead heat!
Club Championships at Forster - Saturday 28 April
Five ETC members headed up to Forster two weeks ago to participate in Club Championships; unfortunately Paul Donoghue was unable to swim due to injury but he completed his bike and run in great times. The four members who were out amongst it at Forster included:
Leigh Gilbert 2.00
Laurel Rogers 2.07
Deb Clements 2.08
Kerri Small 2.17
On Saturday at Club Forster there was a great celebration with Balmoral Tri Club winning the overall pointscore. Engadine Tri Club came in 7th out of 8 Clubs in our category. The band and atmosphere was fantastic and there were a few sore heads the morning after!!
Relay for Life - 5 and 6 May at Sylvania Track
A big thank you to Greg Thompson for once again organising representation of Engadine Tri Club at the annual Relay for Life event held this last weeked. Unfortunately due to a large representation of Club members heading to Port Macquarie the number of participants were down this year but those that did get out there included Greg, Neil Bartlett, Leigh Gilbert, Kim Tudjman, Ethan Tudjman and 9 or so of his mates, Justine, Lili, Jean and Miri Maroney (apologies if I have missed anyone). We did however manage to keep our team on the track for the full 24 hours and its seems they completed over 350 laps which is a great distance. The final fund raising tally is yet to be provided but if anyone is still interested in making a donation to this fabulous cause, please contact Greg Thompson 0408 274 443 to arrange.

Congratulations to Bob Meers and Rachael Kennedy for winning the male and female seniors race and Nicholas Middleton and Miri Maroney for winning the male and female juniors (overall). Thanks to our wonderful sponsors Maroney Swim Team (pool entry fees), Interdependent Motor Auctions (sponsor juniors' race fees), Endeavour Cycles and SouthSide Runners for vouchers for the raffle. Anyone interested in participating in the upcoming Hamilton Island Triathlon with Karen & Mark, Kath & Pat should go the website at http://www.hamiltonisland.com.au/triathlon.
Our fabulous and truly inspiring guest speaker was the man in the kilt (and yes it was true!!) Micky Campbell. Mickey shared stories of his many events and spoke about his amazing upcoming Race Across America (RAAM) starting in a couple of weeks - he is a mad Scots/Australian!! Mickey started his illustrious career at the age of 6 once he escaped being tied up by his mother (true) and he was riding 10km or more at that young age, so that really set him up for the long distances he has done in the past and will continue to do in the future. Micky is raising funds for the Cerebral Palsy Alliance and raised $620 at the presentation night with ETC contributing $400. Anyone interested in going to Micky's next fund raiser it is next Friday evening, 3rd June at Penshurst Hotel from 7pm or go to http://www.gofundraise.com.au/page/RideAcross America and make your donation. We have invited Micky to come back and tell us about the Race Across America event in July at one of our upcoming social functions.
And, now for some big thanks yous:
Thank you to Engadine Bowling Club and the staff who made the night so effortless and fantastic - the food was great, the service was great and eveything ran smoothly.
Thank you to the fabulous Club Committee who bought it all together and made the night happen.
Thanks as always to Matt McEwan for his wonderful MCing on the night - I was particularly impressed with the hot pink shirt Matt wore this year. And as always he managed to get people to open up and talk about their accomplishments.
We will be positing some photos from the evening on a linked website so keep an eye out for the link and the photos.
Finally, a couple of social events coming up in the next three months - dates will be posted shortly
- wine tasting night - June

Thanks all for coming along - it was great to see so many people on the night
