Our fabulous and truly inspiring guest speaker was the man in the kilt (and yes it was true!!) Micky Campbell. Mickey shared stories of his many events and spoke about his amazing upcoming Race Across America (RAAM) starting in a couple of weeks - he is a mad Scots/Australian!! Mickey started his illustrious career at the age of 6 once he escaped being tied up by his mother (true) and he was riding 10km or more at that young age, so that really set him up for the long distances he has done in the past and will continue to do in the future. Micky is raising funds for the Cerebral Palsy Alliance and raised $620 at the presentation night with ETC contributing $400. Anyone interested in going to Micky's next fund raiser it is next Friday evening, 3rd June at Penshurst Hotel from 7pm or go to http://www.gofundraise.com.au/page/RideAcross America and make your donation. We have invited Micky to come back and tell us about the Race Across America event in July at one of our upcoming social functions.
And, now for some big thanks yous:
Thank you to Engadine Bowling Club and the staff who made the night so effortless and fantastic - the food was great, the service was great and eveything ran smoothly.
Thank you to the fabulous Club Committee who bought it all together and made the night happen.
Thanks as always to Matt McEwan for his wonderful MCing on the night - I was particularly impressed with the hot pink shirt Matt wore this year. And as always he managed to get people to open up and talk about their accomplishments.
We will be positing some photos from the evening on a linked website so keep an eye out for the link and the photos.
Finally, a couple of social events coming up in the next three months - dates will be posted shortly
- wine tasting night - June
- drinks and dinner - July
- barefoot bowling and AGM - August
Thanks all for coming along - it was great to see so many people on the night

Your first triathlon was when and where?
My first “actual” triathlon was when I was about 12 and did the Bundeena Triathlon. I remember people used to have an ice cream container filled with water next to their bike to wash their feet! But I really consider getting myself into triathlons during the 08/09 season – all the Kurnell ones (and I still take just as long in transition!).
Your first real bike was?
I’ve been very lucky to have some nice bikes over the years. My first racing bike as an adult was a GT.
And what do you ride now?
I am now riding on a beautiful Kuota KOM ....love it!!!
Your worst triathlon experience was?
I think it was the 3rd Kurnell during my first season and I received a DQ - couldn’t believe it! I was overtaking some dude on a mountain bike getting his Sunday papers during the “no over-taking zone” when Nick Munting jumped out yelling at me to pull over ....NOT HAPPY JAN!!!!!
The best part about doing triathlons are
It’s just such a high when you feel good and post a decent result. I love being fit and healthy after spending the last 8 years “eating for 2”!!! I love being surrounded by like minded people who love training and racing and most of the people I’ve met are really friendly.
What events am I doing this season?
Still finding my legs, so just the baby ones! All the Kurnell series, Husky Sprint, Hamilton Island, hopefully Callala & Club Champs and the big one.....ITU Sydney – my first OD!
Your favourite training sessions are
I love riding or running in the RNP, we’re so lucky to live next to a National Park. I’ve also started to do Justine’s swim squads to learn how to swim (Steve Mackay’s swim tips just weren’t getting the results!!!)
And your secret training nutrition is
I wish I could say I was good ....but chocolate is my achilles heel! I can easily eat a jar of Nutella in one sitting – disgraceful!!!
And finally Katherine, what do you do when you are not doing triathlons?
Working or hanging out with my 2 kids. Oh and I’ve become addicted to Transitions!!!!
